Whangarei (Fangarey)
Whangarei is the 12th largest city in New Zealand, and the largest city north of Auckland. It is nicknamed the "city of 100 beaches," and serves as the gateway to the Far North. Whangarei has over 70,000 residents, and is the capitol for the Northland Region which has over 200,000 residents. Whangarei has a subtropical climate, with a mild winter from April - September, and a dry, hot summer from November - February. The area is known for it's agricultural industry in dairy and beef, as well as sheep, and logging. Other industries exist, but these are the primary ones.
Northland and the Far North
Northland and the Far North are also known for the Maori (native New Zealand people). More Maori reside in Northland and the Far North than most other regions of New Zealand. The Far North is also known for it's historical signifigance. Rangihoua Bay, where the Gospel was first preached in New Zealand; the oldest building in New Zealand, the Mission House; Russell, New Zealand's first capitol, and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, where the Maori first signed the Treaty allowing British colonization to begin, are all in the Far North. This region was once filled with Gospel preaching churches. But the majority of them have disappeared. It is our desire to see new Bible preaching churches established throughout this region once again.
